Maro on the Med

3 planes, a train, a bus followed by an hours walk via an awesome aqueduct built in 1879, El Acueducto Del Aguila,  and across a 19th century bridge – finally we reached our starting point and dipped our feet in the Med on a wild sea day. The real walking starts tomorrow.

Semana Santa - madness in Malaga

The noise of parades finally lured us out to the chaotic streets – we got trapped amongst the huge crowds watching the amazing procession. An enormous religious float carried by hundreds of men led by brass bands and people dressed in long shiny robes and pointy hats – white, gold, maroon and black. Somehow we managed to get back to our hostal where we had a bird’s eye view from a balcony. The procession went on for hours and hours. The guys carrying the float didn’t look that young and must have been exhausted despite many rests.

Rob got friendly with a few of the dozens of cops.

Bienvenido a Espana

As we reached the bottom of an escalator at Madrid airport someone dropped their metallic case at the top and it screamed down and hit Debby in the back of the leg. It hurt like hell and our walking holiday nearly ended right there!  Luckily the damage is just a huge bruise.

We hurtled across Spain by fast train to Malaga reaching speeds of 283 km an hour - impressive. Passed some exceedingly horrible smoggy coal mining towns, acres and acres of olive trees, some beautiful wooded hillsides.

Tomorrow we head by bus to the start of our walk in Maro.
